CHARACTER
Character Name: Rita Du Clark
Character Age: late 20s
Canon: iZombie (tv show)
Canon Point: When she's about to go Romero in the s2 finale
History: Rita @ iZombie wiki
Personality: The best and most concise description of Rita is given by our girl Liv upon uncovering the truth about "Gilda"-- "you're a sick bitch."
Rita is not your average asshole. Not even your average rich asshole. Sure, she's that girl with the perfect hair and makeup and clothes and mani/pedi, with the perfect slim body because she can afford to Eat Healthy (tm) and go to the gym all the time (that's actually a job perk), and with an expensive car and apartment, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Six out of seven deadly sins find human form in Rita Du Clark (sloth being the odd one out, although can you really see her cooking and cleaning for herself?)-- okay, make that all seven of them. She's more subtle and in control of her failings than her dad is, but it's very clear that she's the child of Vaughn Du Clark, "eccentric" (read: batshit sociopathic) billionaire CEO of Max Rager, the corporation that's half responsible for the birth of zombies.
It says a lot about her that she doesn't refuse to engage with zombies. For one, she knows they exist. For another, she knows they only go monster when they don't feed. And for yet another, she isn't afraid of them. She just wants to keep an eye on Liv so Major will be a good boy and murder all the other zombies in Seattle, at which point Vaughn will have both Liv and Major killed. Zombie problem solved, Max Rager saved, and all Rita will have to do after that is outlive her jerk of a dad and become CEO when he drops dead. That goal is a source of "friendly" and "familial" banter between father and daughter, neither of whom seem bothered by the fact that Rita was born of an affair Vaughn had with a married woman, or by the fact that they're "joking" about his death. Their relationship is weird to say the least, full of mutual snarking and blunt honesty that isn't what most people think about when they think of dads and their daughters.
Rita seems to see Vaughn more as a necessary annoyance than as a dad. Vaughn seems like he cares about as much... until he leaves her behind when fleeing a loose Romero in the company basement. See, that's where they differ. For all that Rita has been about as selfish as he has thus far, it's this moment that shows that he's been a monster long before zombies started to pop up, and she retained enough of her humanity to try and save the Romero's first target. Fast forward, she survives, scratched and bloodied up-- infected, banking on Vaughn having enough decency to apologize when he sees she made it. Spoilers: he doesn't.
She doesn't break down, though. Someone else might, but she's a fighter. There's a tenacity in her last moments of freedom that show a woman who's Seen Some Shit in life and who knows her fate is what she makes it. For the rest of her (un)life, she never loses sight of her new goal: get out of the holding cell her dad put her in and get revenge on him. The enemy of her dad becomes her friend in her last minutes before being killed. If not for her, dozens of people would've died, but that's not to say she cared. Ensuring their survival was just a way of giving her dad the finger.
When she wasn't involved in the drama of humans vs zombies, Rita liked to sleep with sexy men, and go out (or stay in) to drink. She seemed to have no friends, and it didn't seem to bother her. Money and life's exquisite pleasures were good enough for her. Maybe in the past she used to want her dad to love her and be close to normal, but by the time she shows up in canon, she's past that. No one can be trusted, least of all her dad, and good guys like Liv and Major are just toys to use and discard as she sees fit.
Rita Du Clark is a sick bitch whose one act of goodness eventually led to her death, proving herself right without even trying to. At least she got revenge on her dad before she got shot. No goal left behind.
Inventory: Just what she was wearing when she got here. Nothing fancy, to her eternal dismay.
Abilities: Her only "abilities" come from being a zombie. She has a dulled sense of pain and doesn't need sleep or even regular food. In Romero mode, she's extremely strong, extremely angry, and extremely hungry for brains.
Flaws: She is a walking flaw.
But being real, she eats human brains in order to stay lucid. Does that count as cannibalism? She would judge a cannibal. And she would probably murder someone for their brain if she were hungry enough. Is that survival of a crime of passion? Grey space for the lady who eats grey matter. (Stop you're not funny.)
Speaking of murder, she's pretty casual about ordering a dude to murder zombies who aren't actively hurting anyone, and she's cold enough to lure a teenager to his (almost) death to keep company secrets. What's a little murder now and then to keep her future fortune safe, right? (Wrong oh my god.)
She's also down to manipulate her roommate's ex into sleeping with her just because why not, especially when it becomes clear she can hurt them both by taunting them. Sadistic much? She gets it from her dad.
She drinks a lot (or at least it's implied she does), she's selfish... she's pretty horrible and shows no remorse for anything she's done. :|
